Scopus removed 14 journals in July 2026 — and authors received no advance warning.
Eight titles were discontinued, while six were removed under the Journal Change Policy. The update affected journals in engineering, medicine, law, sustainability, sport science, mathematics and other fields.
For researchers with manuscripts already submitted or accepted, this is a reminder that a journal’s Scopus status can change before publication or indexation.

July 2026 is not an outlier. It is another confirmation that Scopus actively reviews its database — and does not warn authors when it removes a journal.
Eight journals were permanently discontinued. Six were excluded for editorial policy changes that took them outside Scopus compliance. Together, fourteen titles from more than ten countries are now gone — affecting every author who submitted to them without knowing what was coming.
The practical consequences remain the same:
- Articles submitted or accepted before a journal's removal may not be credited toward degree or certification requirements.
- Publication in a removed journal can be grounds for rejection during dissertation defence.
- Grants and academic positions tied to Scopus publications are also at risk.
In the first seven months of 2026, Scopus has removed 81 journals. At this pace, 2026 is on track to set a record for annual deindexations. The question for every researcher is no longer whether journals get removed — it is whether the journal you are targeting right now is already under review.
